Gary Erwin, a health care executive, recently retired after a long career with Omnicare, a CVS Health Company.  The first half of his career was spent as an academician, specializing in drug therapy in the elderly.

He holds a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from the University of Kentucky and his Hospital Pharmacy Residency was also at Kentucky (1978-1981).  His Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy was awarded from Auburn University, (1972-1976).

 

His 44-year career includes broad experience in the areas of pharmacist clinical services operations, pharmaceutical care services to the elderly, performance of prospective clinical trials and retrospective health services research, and quality assessment and safety monitoring.

Directed, developed and managed clinical programs for Omnicare, a company which provided professional pharmacy, related consulting and data management services for skilled nursing, assisted living and other chronic care institutions.

Directed, developed and managed clinical programs for Omnicare, as well as key commercialization services for the bio-pharmaceutical industry through its Specialty Care Group.

Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, Professor of Clinical Pharmacy and VP, Office of Professional Programs

1985-1997

Coordinated and participated in academic coursework in areas of geriatrics, health systems management, and pharmacy benefit management.  Directed and administered the College's strategic business unit (Geriatric Pharmacy Institute, Center for Pharmaceutical Care Management, Center for Professional Education, Institute for Pharmaceutical Economics.

Gary's hobbies and interests include travel with his wife Lisa, his 4 adult daughters, sourdough bread baking, and the always fashionable bourbon/rye.  He was a starting forward on his high school basketball team, which won the Alabama State 4-A Championship in 1970.
