THOREN

Tom Thoren is experienced in providing counsel to corporate executives, governments, individuals and organizations on strategic communications, corporate social responsibility programs, issues management, community relations and crisis situations. His background uniquely combines experiences in business, public relations, crisis communication, politics and government.

CORPORATE PUBLIC RELATIONS

Currently a senior consultant to Honeywell International, Tom provides strategic communications counsel and the development of community outreach programs for a variety of legacy environmental remediation sites. Current projects include a Super Fund site in the state of New York and remediation sites in Baltimore, Maryland.

MEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS

Prior to becoming a consultant for Honeywell International, Tom worked as Vice President of Communications, American Water, Inc., Executive Vice President of Tierney Communications in Philadelphia, and Vice President of Public Affairs in the Washington, D.C. office of Fleishman Hillard.

While with Fleishman Hillard, Tom developed the structure for Fleishman-Hillard’s grassroots division and built it into one of the premier grassroots firms in the country. He managed independent grassroots consultants in 20 states, created highly successful national campaigns for The Clean Air Working Group (CAWG), Health Insurance Association of America, Footwear Retailer and Distributors of America (MFN for China), and the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers.

During his years with Tierney Communications, Tom provided strategic public affairs counsel, crisis management and grassroots lobbying campaigns for Deloitte Consulting, Disney/ABC Cable, American Water Works, PECO Energy, and ABC Cable. He also developed and managed local, state and national grassroots programs for: Bank America Corporation, Levi Strauss, American Airlines, Cigna and the American College of Emergency Physicians.

GOVERNMENT AND POLITICAL

Before joining the private sector, Tom held numerous positions in politics and government including White House Associate Director of Political Affairs during the Reagan Presidency. In addition, Tom began his political career in Iowa working for the Governor and in the state legislature.

 

From 1978 through 1984 Tom worked for the Republican National Committee, the National Republican Congressional Committee and the Republican Governors Association working with political candidates across the country.
